Commissioned Work
Alamo Music Center:
Youth piano competition promo materials
Alamo Music requested a high-energy and fun looking banner, which highlighted the main draw of the competition: that it was open to all styles of music. I achieved this with a keyboard graphic in which the keys represented diverse musical genres. I also designed a marquee font for an eye-catching and theatrical look, and as a reference to the Alamo Music storefront, with its iconic lightbulb-lined sign. This was used at the top of the banner and for a logo which could be simplified for smaller display.
Elephant
Elephant wanted a logo and collection of graphics for a website which visually portrayed the applications and capabilities of their product. The first graphic I designed was a fully rendered elephant character who appears to be plucking a document out of a collection of different files flying around him, showcasing the AI’s standout features of document parsing and retrieval. The second graphic was a simple silhouette of an elephant, with a large brain with binary code defining the folds, to suggest a large capacity for memory and comprehension.
For the Elephant AI logo, I fit the letters “AI” into the shape of a simplified elephant, with the lower case “i” representing the eye and tusk of the elephant. I opted not to fill in the “eye” dot completely to give the mascot more personality and a friendlier expression. I chose muted colors to give the impression of an elephant’s dusty gray skin, and to suggest deep thought and an academic nature. The logo was the first asset I designed for the project, and I used this two-color palette as a basis for the rest of the designs for the site.
Point2 Media
Point2 Media, a videography company based in Victoria, BC, wanted a logo designed which included their business name. The client provided the following ai-generated logo concept, and wanted me to convert it into a more polished logo.
I adapted the logo into a rectangular format to get rid of the negative space above and below the text in the concept, and reduce the visual dissonance caused by the curve of the circle butting up against the text and graphic. I integrated the visual element of the islands into the space below the text, extending the waves to underline it and redesigning the trees and geography of the islands to fit into the gap after “media”
I used the original colors of the concept image for one of the logo options, and also created a simplified, single-color option with a transparent background, which was the version the client ended up using on their website.
Alamo Music Center:
"Chicken on a Stick" Fiesta Medal
This was the first project I worked on for Alamo Music Center, a musical instrument store in San Antonio, which was looking to design a medal for the city’s annual Fiesta parade. The client wanted the medal to resemble the classic Fiesta street food fried chicken and jalapeño on a stick, but with the skewer replaced with a guitar neck, and the chicken with a grand piano. They provided me with the following images of the elements and examples of fiesta medals from other organizations.
Alamo music sent the mock-ups to a third party manufacturer, which converted the concept into a finished design and produced the final medals (right).
I sent back three mockups, one with the piano as viewed from the side as in the reference image, and two with it viewed from the top. The client agreed that the bird’s-eye-view designs were more practical, and went ahead with option 3, which was slightly more irregularly shaped than option two, but had a more dynamic composition.
